Man Utd to trial 1,500 barrier seats (standing with rails) at Old Trafford next season
If a success they will introduce it to other areas of the stadium

If you drew a line 3 yds back from the edge of the pitch on both sidelines at London Stadium how many of those could you accommodate from that line back across the running track to where the current seating starts.
How many (if any) rows at the front of the current seating would you have to vacate so that seated people could see over these people?
This area could be allocated to teenagers who are priced out , smaller children , various midgets , double amputees & random shortarses.

West Ham Supporter Services have just got back to me.
"Hi, thanks for your message and I hope you're well. We are continuing to work on the reformatted stand designs and more information will be shared in due course on our website. Thanks, Lee"

As predicted it's a 'Don't know'

Let's face it, United need all the help they can get at the moment. Not much reason for their fans to leap to leap to their feet otherwise...

I saw a write up the other day valued us way down at around £285M... just a tad short of Sully's 'sale price'... Just like Declan, eh? Put a high enough price on because you don't actually want to sell.

Yeah. I know...

In a perfect world I'd prefer dangerous standing like the old days but that is never going to happen.

Re: Man Utd to trial 1,500 barrier seats (standing with rails) at Old Trafford next season
I've been wanting safe standing for years and certainly not saying it isn't a good thing this is now starting to be rolled out at grounds.

However, if the space between rows for TBL and BML is anything like block 113 then I'm not so sure it'll make much difference.

All safe standing means at the moment is basically seats in their upright position and a rail across the top of them.

At the moment when* we go mental after scoring you can fall forwards into the seats in front. Railed safe standing would take that away, making it more restrictive for me.

Would of course get rid of any arguments of people wishing to sit...and running the risk of being chucked out for persistent standing. But touch wood we don't seem to have that issue in 113.

*ok, there haven't been too many times we've gone mental due to the crap atmosphere...and of course, VAR!

I have just messaged West Ham and West Ham Supporter Services asking the same question.

Bet the answer is 'don't know'.

Or no answer of course. Worth a try though

They have already stumped up for it in the form of straight seating behind the goals. It's just a case of whether the new seating has the slots ready to take the bars that convert it to safe standing. Doubt it would increase the cost much.

I've tweeted Karren Brady and asked her but I'm useless at twitter and might have done it wrong.

"Given that all the actual stands are curved as well, I imagine that makes it very difficult to install compared to a normal stadium where the rows are all straight."

The banks of seating behind both goals have been straightened.

And to be honest, they're the only areas of the stadium where you'd want standing anyway.

Re: Man Utd to trial 1,500 barrier seats (standing with rails) at Old Trafford next season
Even if they stumped up for it (they won't) you'd have to displace a lot of the bottom tier so they could see over those people. It's not feasible.

Given that all the actual stands are curved as well, I imagine that makes it very difficult to install compared to a normal stadium where the rows are all straight.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this only allowed for games in European competitions at the moment? Therefore I can't even see this being used ever, given the current state of the club.

I was thinking of BML & TBL supporters, as you well know.

Being closer and standing behind the goals will make a big difference.

Re: Man Utd to trial 1,500 barrier seats (standing with rails) at Old Trafford next season
Installing safe standing would be cheap and easy so I could definitely see them doing that at some point seeing as it might go some way to appeasing fans.

Come to think of it, now that they've straightened the banks of seating behind the goals, it makes it easier than it otherwise would've been with the curved banks.

Brady has said the new retractable seating is built and didn’t mention it had retractable seating built in so I very much doubt it, oioi.

Standing behind the goals and sitting at the sides would be a standard football stadium set up.

Won't happen at the shit hole. Man Utd can trial it because they have a PROPER FOOTBALL STADIUM. Anyway, with social distancing in place for around 8 years it won't work anyway. Probably one person per row at grounds next season

The other sports use the athletics seating that is under the football terraces. Would think that the new, closer seating behind the goals will have the standing option built in so no extra cost. There is no way they will have standing on the flat surface either side of the pitch, got to be terracing.

Not even if you call it the "David Sullivan Celebratory Area for the Vertically Challenged"?

Not even then?
